Today, Facebook announced a new partnership with Clicker, an online TV guide, to help you instantly discover new TV shows based on what you and your friends have liked on Facebook and other websites. Now, you should be able to spend less time channel surfing and just watch what you want to watch.
When you visit Clicker you will see TV recommendations based on the shows you have added to your Facebook profile and what you and your friends have liked, so let’s say five of your friends have liked It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia, then it could be surfaced as a show you might like as well.
The more shows you like on Facebook and other websites with Facebook’s ‘Like’ button, the better your recommendation will be on Clicker. As you go through and watch shows, and participate by clicking Clicker’s ‘Love it’, ‘Don’t’, or ‘Watching’ buttons, the better your recommendations will be. So, it is based of your Facebook profile and likes, as well how you participate on Clicker.
It is fair to say that if you want to have the best recommendations fit for you, then you have to be active.
As of right now, it is unclear if this will work outside of the US or not. My guess is that it won’t, but maybe in the future Facebook will be able to link to TV guides in other countries and set up a similar functionality for their international users.
If you are a US Facebook user, go right ahead and connect with Clicker and start watching shows that you are interested in, instead of watching junk.
