Last night the VMA’s were held at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles, CA. As usual all the brightest stars on the music heaven was present. We saw performances from artists such as Eminem, Linkin Park, Drake, Florence and the Machine and more.
The actual award show was not very exciting as Lady Gaga and Eminem basically won everything and of course Justin Bieber took home the “New Artist” award, which wasn’t very surprising.
What was more exciting was the barefoot performance from Taylor Swift in which she basically forgave Kanye West for him interrupting her speech at last year’s VMA’s. And then there was Kanye’s performance. Visually Kanye had the most interesting and sleek looking performance I have seen in a very long time. I think it is safe to say that Kanye has taken the step from being just a rapper/musician to become something of a true artist. If you look at the way he dresses nowadays combined with the minimalistic stage feel he presented last night, and in addition to all that he has also created a movie. Kanye is definitely expanding his field of expertise.
Back to the performance last night. Kanye has been taking a lot of criticism for what he did to Taylor Swift last year, he also not been very present in the last year’s music, except for a few collaborations here and there. He is getting ready to drop a new album shortly and has started releasing a few songs. The performance last night felt like, in my opinion and excuse my language, a good old Fuck You! to everyone that has been criticizing him the last year and he definitely took this opportunity to level with all the haters out there.
Besides from Kanye’s performance, which was my favorite, I also liked the performance from Florence and the Machine, Linkin Park – Really cool idea to play outside the Griffith Observatory with all those lights and fog. I also liked Eminem’s performance and it was cool to see Rihana making a surprise appearance. Drake had a nice collaboration with Mary J Blige and Swizz Beats that was really good too.
The other performances were good too, but they felt more like your standard VMA performance.
What do you think about the VMA’s this year, what was your favorite moment?
